Tunisian Cross-Cultural Art Project

Last summer my husband and I had the incredible opportunity to visit North Africa and participate in a public art initiative with Beyond Walls, the Tunisian Ministry of Culture, and the Uníon de Artiste Plasticiens Tunisien (a local artist’s association). 10 international artists teamed up with 10+ local Tunisian art students to design and paint a 130 meter wall at the entrance to the capital city of Tunis. The objectives were to celebrate Tunisian culture, create cross-cultural friendships, and vision together positive values for the future of Tunisia.

Tunisia, home of the ancient city of Carthage, has a rich and important historical legacy and is full of astonishing mosaics, ruins, and bustling arab medinas.  The people of Tunisia taught us a lot about generosity and courage and were eager to share with us the unique qualities of their country.

We are excited to announce that there is return trip being planned to involve students from the School of Visual Art & Design for June 16-30, 2014! We are in our final weeks of fundraising.
